State laws
As I mentioned in my last blog, I get a little confuddled by state laws and how different they all are.
In fact, someone mentioned to me only last week that America was just a big place with lots of different countries (so, like, er, Europe) that call themselves states, and that the only thing that’s united about it is its love of fast food restaurants and all the states watch the same ‘crap TV’. Say what you will about that comment.
Anyhoo, take a look at some of the comments by AMERICANS on the previous blog. ‘Tis interesting folks!
What British People Know About American, and vice-versa
A recent Buzzfeed poll in the UK asked six questions of their staff about America.
These were the questions:
1) Who is the current vice president of the United States?
2) Name three signatories of the Declaration of Independence.
3) Name any two of the five Great Lakes.
4) Identify a state from its outline.
5) What is a nickel?
6) Name an NHL team.
And these are the very amusing answers…. (clue: we know not that much at all! 😉 )
So, I decided to ask some questions of American folks in the same vein. British folk – have a pop too, if you wish!
Take a butchers at these Qs and post your replies on the blog or at the Facebook page, or email me! I’ll get the answers and responses out next week. Should be a laugh!
What American People Know About Britain – The Quiz
1) Who is the current Deputy Prime Minister of the UK?
2) By whom and where was the Magna Carta sealed?
3) Name any two of the lakes in the Lake District.
4) Identify this county from its outline.
5) What is a quid?
6) Name a team from the Football League First Division.
Have fun!
1. Don’t know at all. Prince Harry? That’s a joke.
2. King John. 1215. In front of a bunch of people?
3. Loch Ness, Lake Victoria?
4. Not Lancaster or York or Sussex or Essex. Maybe Worcester?
5. A favor you do for someone?
6. Chelsea!
Loving these answers, Brandon!
1) David Cameron’s Mini Me
2) King John and all the other guys holding pikes in his general direction
3) Lake Wales and Lake Cornwall. IDK
4) Northuptonthruppanceshire
5) You forgot the “s”. It’s a sea animal. JK. A one pound note.
6) Umm….Man U? Man City? Everton? Blades? IDK who’s in what division
Like it!
The last one is a trick question. The First Division was a division of the Football League between 1888 and 2004 and the highest tier in English football until the creation of the Premier League. The First Division doesn’t exist anymore. Cute quiz, though.
Very good Phillip! 🙂
Nick Clegg,
Runnymede King John 15 June 1215,
Windermere (technically there’s a North and South so there’s 2) Bassenthwaite,
The county is Wiltshire; however, the part in the North East is Swindon.
There is a League One, Wolves won it last season. The US ones are too easy.
I lived in the US for 22 yrs but returned to Old Blighty last year.
Naffing sad face 😦 I could answer all the questions about the US but only 4 out of 6 of the UK ones – and one of those was a footie question. I am ashamed of myself.
British at heart tho Andy!
Guess I am just another American chauvinist as I couldn’t answer any of your questions correctly. Kinda reminded me about the time my wife asked me to answer 5 questions about my kids and I missed all of them too. Male chauvinist, American chauvinist—-I am humbled.
Honest, though, Duane!
OMG, you are so clever showing us up like that. Of course, I don’t know much except King John, a quid is some denomination of money, and Liverpool has a football team. I had better go “google” the rest…
one pound onde shilling = quid
no thats a Guinea gees
🙂 And probably you know how many dollars that is equivalent to, right? And of course, I do not.
I am crap with the exchange rate! Always get it the wrong way round!!!

6) Name a team from the Football League First Division. – Ahhh, Manchest United? However, I do believe they are in the Premier League if memory serves me right. Loved watching Football also while over there!

To be fair most of my fellow Americans cannot recall the Vice President. Most from east of the Mississippi can’t identify Idaho.
As far as the UK Deputy Prime Minister does the man on the street in the UK know?
As a ‘man on the street in the UK’, yes, we do know our Deputy PM. Mainly because he is a monumental idiot like 99% of the government.

Q. Where was the Magna Carta signed?
A. On the dotted line at the bottom (old schoolboy joke)
