Desperate English Housewife in Washington, chapter 239

Going shootin’

Tomorrow I’m going shootin’. Yes I am. I’m heading to a shooting range following an invitation from a police guy and his girlfriend who read my blog.

Apparently, this is their new toy.*

Oh my......

Oh my……

I’m a little bit on the nervous side! It looks so…well, so real!

And I have had to think hard about the appropriate attire to wear. I’m sorted, I think….

*NB: I know this is not a toy. Yikes, a real firearm.

Southern Gent

I wrote an article recently about the Confederate Flag and how we Brits might interpret it. Rememember…?

So, from that a Southern gentleman has been in communication with me, offering me lots of suggestions about the flag and information about the South in general, which has been fascinating.

He’s been telling me how he’s been reading and learing about U.S. history for 20 years now and is creating a piece about it. He’s also given me some authors to pursue – the writer, Jessica James, who lives in Virginia (I think). She has written a couple of historical fiction books, as has Virginia Beard Morton. Her book is ‘Marching Through Culpepper’, and it’s ‘a romance as well as history’. I like a bit of historical fiction, so I’ll be dipping my nose in, for sure.

Looks like a bodice ripper!

Looks like a bodice ripper!

:)

This one is a little more sedate, perhaps

Thank you, Southern Gent ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. For goodness’ sake, cover up when you go shooting! I’ve had a shell go down my shirt collar before – not fun!! And wear closed-toe shoes, too – some places won’t let you shoot if you don’t. Have fun!!

  2. ThatOtherGuy says:

Be mindful of rings and bracelets too as they can impede your grip and/or comfort. When shooting the rifle, keep it flush to your shoulder and DO NOT put your eye to the scope unless you’d like a really nice black eye the next day. Have fun, be safe. Wear eyes and ears.

  3. Josie says:

Just for the record, that is *his* toy, not ours. I don’t believe guns are toys. They’re tools for law enforcement and protection against wild animals. Somehow we manage to make our relationship work despite him being a gun toting conservative and myself being a bleeding heat progressive

  4. pak152 says:

“this is their new toy” please firearms are not toys. treat them with respect. also be sure and wear ear protection

  5. Avi says:

The rifle is a .22, so there is barely any recoil, and there’s plenty of eye relief that she will not get hurt in any way. I’ve never had a student get hurt under my watch ๐Ÿ™‚ she’s in good hands. Dual layered ear protection, eye protection, shooting rifles from the bench. And pistols will start with a .22 also. If Claire is up for it, she can try something a little more powerful ๐Ÿ™‚
