Desperate English Housewife in Washington, chapter 101

Goddammit, it’s too hot!

I never, ever thought I would utter those words, but by Jove, it is too damn hot for me to sit out in the sunshine! And this is all I’ve been craving! 85 whopping degrees today – lush!

It felt tropical last night. Such a wonderful feeling, to have that warmth on your skin. Now this is what I like, America-land! It almost feels like I’m abroad….oh, hang on I am! What I mean is that it almost feels like I am on holiday, but sadly there is no maid and no pool and no swim-up pool bar…. 😉

Snake!

I’d heard stories of big, slithering black snakes in these parts that hide in the woods and then make a sudden appearance, and blow me down I saw one today. I had to screech on the brakes, as there he was crossing the road in no particular hurry.

It was a Queen Snake, apparently.

Wow, there are 27 species and subspecies of snakes in Maryland, only two of which are venomous – phew.

That Queen Snake nearly made me crash, as did the topless/barefoot running man, which I, sadly, do not have a picture of to share with you…….

  1. Don’t you love springtime in Washington? You never know what will happen!
Also, NO MORE SNAKES. There is NO need! 🙂

  2. Jane says:

I have just discovered your blog today and have learnt so much. I (with my husband and 2 sons) am moving to Maryland from Australia in 9 weeks. We are thinking if living in columbia so it’s great to get an insight into life there. We lived in the UK last year so I can understand most of the differences you have encountered. Will keep reading with interest. Thanks

  3. Pat and Pam says:

I do NOT like that kind of heat. The heat and humidity of Maryland, where I lived for 31 years, I do not miss. I have been living here in the UK since 1996, and the UK weather has gone through many changes, but until lately I did not complain about it, because to me it was MUCH better than Maryland’s norms. Temperate Britain is WONDERFUL! Freezing Spring, like this year, is not wonderful. Would I go back? No.

Now, if the Atlantic blue crab, which is what you get in MD, would migrate over here, I would be VERY happy!

  4. LOL…u kill me! Now its too hot??? don’t say it too loud, we could get a freak snow storm 🙂

  5. EmmaK says:

Yes what freaky but heavenly weather. Did you join a pool? Ours opens on Memorial Day so can’t wait! Until then I guess I will just sit under the sprinkler.
